Calibrating the Odometer via the Asset Page

Introduction

If you use a fiscally certified trip registration system, the Dutch Tax Administration requires you to calibrate the vehicle's odometer at least once every two months.

This article explains how to perform the calibration through the Asset page in MyFMS using a laptop or desktop computer.

Calibration is only required when the MyFMS vehicle unit is not connected to the vehicle's CAN bus or OBD port. In that case, the travelled distance is calculated using GPS data.

Over time, small differences may occur between the distance recorded by MyFMS and the vehicle's odometer reading. These differences may be caused by, for example:

  • Temporary GPS signal interruptions.
  • Variations in satellite positioning.
  • Changing driving conditions, such as driving on unpaved roads.

By calibrating the odometer regularly, your trip registration remains accurate and the GPS-calculated distance stays aligned with the vehicle's actual odometer reading.

Requirements

To calibrate a vehicle via the Asset page, the following requirements must be met:

  • You are the vehicle's assigned driver or you have administrator access to the relevant asset.
  • The MyFMS vehicle unit does not read the odometer directly via the CAN bus or OBD port.
  • The asset is configured as a Vehicle in MyFMS.
